Swirl commissioned by Des Moines Performing Arts consists of 9 uprights and 18 stainless steel ellipses with embedded LEDs creating a form that functions as a static sculpture during the day. At night the LEDs on both sides of the ellipses turn on and together the pixels create an abstract moving image of Des Moines Marathon runners which shows up on both the inside and the outside of the sculpture.
